Skittle Mama

I was giving the kids some candy tonight and it reminded me of my bad Mama moment of the year.

I absolutely hate yellow skittles: with a passion. So whenever I would eat yellow skittles I would give Sterling all the yellow skittles.

About a year ago I gave him a bag of treat sized skittles. He opened them and with the widest eyes ever said "There are other colours then yellow skittles? Yay!" Yup, I gave him only the yellows while I ate all the yummy colours. After that I couldn't pull the wool over his eyes and had to share the good skittles. I'm shameless when it comes to yellow candy.

My pumpkin friends

I love doing little projects that only require a few minutes of time. That is pretty much all I can grab these days. A couple minutes to myself which I usually have to dedicate to cleaning or the like. So Halloween always gives me the perfect opportunity for some creativity. The pumpkins are only on my porch for a few weeks so I don't have to make sure every detail is perfect and it is just plain fun coming up with new ideas! I love not having to commit for the long term. I wish I could afford a constantly changing design In my house!

This year I did our monogram on one and a raven on the other. I drew a design on wax paper. Then I put painters tape over the wax paper and cut my design from behind. Then I had an instant stencil!

Lesson learned from this project: don't be lazy and only use white primer for paint because it is all you have and it's only temporary. When I pulled off my stencil so came a bunch of paint. Which I then had to hand paint back in again. I then did a gloss cost and crossed my fingers it would last 2 weeks. So far so good on the primer front.

The Brave Little Toaster

I've starting added some pops of yellow into my kitchen. It doesn't really make sense right now, but it will when I can find a few hours to finish the cabinets and counters and add a few accessories.

I found a beautiful little toaster in bright yellow that came with a $200 price tag. I really can't afford a $200 toaster (nor do I want to when I can paint one to the tune of $10).

I bought a can of yellow engine enamel high heat spray paint for $10. My paint job is far from perfect but I am lazy and using my 7-year-old wedding toaster as a test run so I don't ruin a new toaster if it doesn't wear well.

I masked it quickly off with my frog tape and gave it a quick scuff with red brite. I then got to spraying. She is definitely a pop of sheer beauty in the kitchen. I can't wait to finish my kitchen!

Sadly, poor little Emy has croup. She was up half the night barking like a little seal. Here's to hoping this is short lived as my parents are visiting in a week and a half!

Thanksgiving

I hosted our big family Thanksgiving this year and we had tons of fun! Brighton met his cousin Alora that is younger by three weeks last night. Lets just say that didn't go so well! Every time we put them near each other, one or both started crying. So cute.

I made a bunch of meals for this week from the leftovers today. I realized my daughter is just like me in so many ways. I left the pre-cooked bacon on the counter for the potato casserole I was making. When I returned a few pieces were gone and Emy was nowhere to be seen. That girl is bacon obsessed, lol.

The whole event got me thinking about how grateful we are for such great family around us. Everyone in my family has done so much for us the past 7 years that we have lived here. It has been such a blessing to move to Canada. Just wanted to say thanks for all your help and love these past few years. We have the best family around and love all the laughs we share at these family events!

About Time

It is seriously about time to update our family photos.  It's been about three years because, well, lets face it...I'm lazy.  I love setting up and taking photos of my kids and do this all the time but family ones scare me.  I have made a resolution to take at least one family photo a month because I know my kids will appreciate the effort when they are older!  Here are the ones I took from last night:
