The Dets.

So it has officially been two weeks and one day since I had Emery!  Yea! I am happy to have made it this far but extremely exhausted (as to be expected, I know I know).

So here are the details as I have been asked by several people.  My birthday is on November 14th and at about noon that day I told Emery that I would love for her to start coming at midnight.  Well, the prompt little thing she is, my water broke at 11:50pm on November 14th.  After much debate we went to the hospital at 1am.  They checked to make sure my water did indeed break and sent me on my merry way to come back by noon on November 15th or until my contractions got regular.  Well, they started off good and strong and every 10-5 minutes for 5 hours and then just died.  So I went back to the hospital at noon and sat around another couple hours trying to get them started to no avail.

So at 2pm it was decided that we had to take matters into our own hands.  Sterling was a c-section as he was breech.  So inducing labour was out of the question because of the huge risk of uterine rupture (which is causes death in either mother or child or both).  So, another c-section was pretty much our only option.

At 5:12pm on November 15th our little Emery Mae South was born!  A whole 6 pounds 10 ounces and 18 inches long.  She was 3.5 weeks early so that was quite a substantial weight for someone so early!

We got home from the hospital three days later.  I was able to be released after 2 days but Emery was having trouble with weight gain and her glucose.  It turns out after 11 days (and lots of pain, suffering and lack of sleep) we found out that the poor little girl was tongue tied and couldn't get milk very well!

Sterls started off pretty rocky with Emery.  He would acknowledge when either me or Emery were in the room.  It was like he thought if he pretended she didn't exist that she would just go away.  After about a week he started wanting to hold her and now constantly gives her kisses.  So all is well on that front.  Minus, I can't lift anything above 10 pounds so he is getting pretty neglected at home until Papa gets home because he can't walk or go in his chair :( I think I am getting pretty stir crazy as well as him though.  I can't seem to walk for more than 10 minutes and can't drive because of the c-section pain so it limits going out anywhere.

Here are a couple Sterls and Emery photos!

Trying to Kill Time....

Happy Birthday to me!  It was my birthday yesterday and I told my baby at noon that day that a really good birthday present would be to start having contractions at midnight.  Well, she is nothing if not prompt.  At 11:50pm my water broke!!!  I am 37 weeks preggers tomorrow so the little girl is pretty much full term.  I went to the hospital at 1am and they kept me a few hours to monitor fetal distress and sent me home until my contractions kick in.  Well, every 5 to 10 minutes from 2am until 7am I had horrible contractions and didn't get any sleep last night because of how close and painful they were.  Of course when I decided to get up at 7am they have slowed to one every half and hour and manageable pain, so I am a little peeved at that.  But who can complain when I asked and I did receive.  Wish me luck as I have to go back in at 11am to give birth to this little girl!  YAY!

Sterly Days

We have been trying to do some fun things with Sterls before his little sister arrives.  We recently took him to the zoo and we just had to take the standard bear picture (yes, we take a picture of the bear eating or doing indecent things to us EVERY SINGLE time we go to the zoo).  Here is Sterls contribution to our bear photo stash (yes, he is a real pro at the bear is getting me faces):

We did some good ole' fashioned pumpkin carving.
Although you can see that Sterls was not too pleased upon the prospect of de-gutting the critter.  So that job started and ended with Trevor.
I got the glamourous job of poking holes into the pumpkin from the pattern Sterls picked out.
Here is the pumpkin in all its' glory:

We took our little bear trunk or treating.  I vote this is how it should be done every year.  10 minutes of work for a full pail of candy.....oh yea!

We will leave you with a video of the little guy 'being strong' as he likes to call it!

Bar Stools Redo

Here's a quickie post.....I bought these dark stained bar stools before we changed to dark hardwood.  A few months after, we replaced the gray carpet with dark bamboo hardwood and my stools just blended into the floors.  So in the cheap ways of myself I decided that I would paint them with the leftover paint from my toy shelf.  Voila! Free bar stool makeover that makes a world of difference and only took 2 hours to sand and paint.    Yea!  My house is slowly coming together after a year of work and effort.
